A Brief Survey of Ports of Xnjiang

         Ports serve as the front edge of opening up and the channel for Xinjiang to integrate with the world. Since the policy of reform and opening up was adopted in 1978, with the support of the state, the autonomous regional government has intensified its efforts to construct ports, greatly improving environment and conditions for ports of Xinjiang. So far, there have been 16 ports under Category A approved by the state, and 11 ports under Category B approved the autonomous regional government. Annually, more than 500,000 people and 5 million t goods enter or exit Xinjiang through ports. In 2002, the volume of border of Xinjiang reaches 154,400 USD.
