Xinjiang boasts rich and colorful tourist resources. As the important section of the ancient Silk Road, Xinjiang has many historical sites and cultural relics. Besides, in Xinjiang, there are unique natural sceneries, climate and eco-environment of diversity. Also, in deserts of Xinjiang, there are oasises. With magnificent mountains, vast deserts, beautiful alpine lakes, ethnic folk custom and culture and arts with unique characteristics, Xinjiang attracts many tourists from home and abroad. So, a bright prospect exists for the development of tourism industry.
Xinjiang boasts some famous natural scenic spots such as Tianci Lake, South Mountain, Kanas Lake and Bosten Lake, some folk custom scenic spots such as Sayram Lake, Colourful Sinus, Turpan, Kashgar and Ili, and historical and cultural sites such as Jiaohe ancient city, Gaochang ancient city, Loulan ancient city, Ili General’s Mansion and Thousand Buddhist Cave. The total area of beautiful lakes of Xinjiang reaches 9700 km2, taking up 0.6% of the total area of Xijiang. Famous lakes of Xinjiang include: Bosten Lake, Ebinur Lake, Ulungur Lake, Sayram Lake, Tianchi Lake, Kanas Lake, Aqigkuler Lake, Whale Lake, Jili Lake, Aksayi Lake and Aiximan lake. Xinjiang is the important section of the ancient Silk Road, Chinese and western cultures integrated here where there is colorful ethnic folk custom. Since ancient times Xinjiang has been well known as the home of song and dance and the home of fruit and melon, bringing about unique edge for the development of tourism.
Relying on rich tourist resources of Xinjiang, efforts shall be concentrated on building an eco-tourist spot around Kanas Lake, two scenic spots with Bosteng Lake and Tianchi Lake at the center respectively, a historical site with Turpan as the focus, a folk-custom attraction with Kashgar at the center and a tourist destination in Ili. In addition, we will vigorously develop specialty tourist projects and products featuring locality and ethnic customs such as alpine sight spots, grassland sight spots and historical sites.
