           As a highway port, the port is situated in Qapqal County of Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture and neighbors on Almata State, Kazakhstan. In August 1992, Chinese and Kazakhstan governments signed an accord to open the port and allow the passage of people, vehicles and goods from the two countries. Since September 1999, a market has been opened for trade between the inhabitants of the two sides border area. This market covers an area of 178 mu, in which the volume of commodity transactions reached over 16 million yuan.
